Three stolen cars were recovered last night during a search by gardaí at a property in County Wicklow. An Audi 5, Audi A1 and a Hyundai Tuscan were recovered following a targeted intelligence led operation as part of Operation Thor. The operation which targets organised criminal gangs saw three searches carried out yesterday afternoon in counties Wicklow, Wexford and Meath. One man in his 50s was arrested and detained in Tallaght Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984, as amended.

Yesterday’s operation focused on the activities of an organised gang thought to be stealing cars in residential burglaries across Dublin. Gardaí stopped and searched a car on the N11 in County Wexford and found car parts, believed to have been stolen. A follow-up operation in Summerhill, County Meath saw three additional cars recovered – an Audi A4, Audi A3 and VW Golf. During the search of the premises four kilograms of cannabis with an estimated street value of €80,000 was also seized.

The investigation into the distribution network of stolen car parts is ongoing at this time. The seizure yesterday is considered a significant step towards combating this type of organised crime.
