Katie Taylor has officially booked her place at this year’s Olympic Games in Rio. Taylor confirmed her spot this afternoon when she defeated Mexican Victoria Torres in the Women’s World Championships quarter-final. Despite suffering a nose injury in a recent bout, Taylor was on top form.
The Bray boxer won all four rounds against the talented Mexican. Taylor’s pace never slowed until the final whistle, switching from powerful hooks and rapid jabs. As her hand was raised in the centre of the ring, her spot in Rio this summer was guaranteed. All sights will be set on retaining the gold medal she won at the London 2012 games.
